"The ones who make it are the ones
who never give up."

Michael Wittig
(Kalel of Pillar)

AWOE: What are some of the important aspects in picking a studio and putting together an EP?

Joey: It all depends on your budget. Of course if you spend more it will probably sound better but not always. You have to watch out for crooks. Do some research on bands that you like and see where they recorded. Most bands want to do a lot of songs but they should focus on quality not quantity. Remember music last forever so make sure it sounds good.

AWOE: What is one of the ways an artist or band can successfully market their EP or full album?

Joey: We also offer this service. We have three parts to our business. JMA Consulting, JMA Productions, and JMA Creative Promotions. Creative promotions provides a hands on approach by working with your current or starting up a street team. Our main goal is to get your music heard by the audience you desire. We have designed some unique techniques during the years on how to promote your band by yourself.

AWOE: Do they need a publicity agent to be successful?

Joey: Everything is depending on where the band or artists is at in their career. If they have amazing story to tell then it could be useful to get a publicist. Usually it takes time and exposure to get the full use of a publicist.

AWOE: If so what are some things to look for in an agent?

Joey: It all depends on the market you are trying to approach.

AWOE: What are two important things a band should watch out for in choosing the venues they play at?

Michael: Make sure the venue pays.

AWOE: How can an artist or band maximize their resources realistically when their touring or doing gigs on a very limited budget?

Michael: Play shows that make sense.

AWOE: How valuable of a tool is having a website or a myspace to connecting with fans and establishing a fan base?

Michael: Very important. As well as a several other sites.

AWOE: What is some of the benefits of JMA Consulting that other consulting firms may not provide?

Michael: I don't know of any other music business consulting services available to bands of all levels.

AWOE: Will you guys consult both secular and Christian artists and bands alike?

Michael: The experience we offer is for bands/artists of all levels and all genres of music.

AWOE: In closing, what would you say to an artist or band that’s been struggling, but whose been diligent in pursuing their dream?

Michael: The ones who make it are the ones who never give up. Learn from every situation you find yourself in.
