AWOE MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2008 SPECIAL EDITION ROLLING STONE'S AWAY FROM THE ROCK OF LOVE SEPARATED INTERVIEW Exclusive with Producer & Guitarist Robert Lynn
Jen G: When people hear the name Separated, do you guys ever get that look or get that question, ‘Separated from what?’
Separated: About half the people who hear the name ask some sort of question like that. It just opens up a dialogue to share more.
Jen G: How did God lead you to Zach?
Separated: I was in church and someone said to me, "You need to record this kid!" I invited him over and we immediately went to work on the songs.
Jen G: Do you think the whole producing music with Zach was the beginning of Separated’ unknown future?
Separated: I knew God would use Zach and his giftings somehow, someway. I was working with Ron on the Separated music when Separated became in need of a vocalist.
Zach was the first person I thought of for it.
Separated has gone through many forms with Ron being the constant. Right now we are back in the same spot, as Zach has decided to pursue his vision of God's call on his life. We have someone now who is like our "Guest Vocalist" but nothing set in stone.
Jen G: Now during the transition of God bringing the band together you guys were in the middle of a project. Have you completed that project or?
Separated: We actually used some of those songs in the Separated live set. I’m sure Zach will keep those early tunes and use them.
Jen G: Now you guys have been chosen to be featured on an unsigned album compilation, what song and when do you expect it to release?
Separated: Nuspring Records has slated the release for May, the last we heard. The song "Something Wrong" will be featured on the CD and is track No.7. There will also be a national Christian radio push of our song to promote the CD, so keep your ears open!!
Jen G: As a band what’s the importance of not being separated from those who love you, support you and hold you accountable?
Separated: I don’t know what I would do without my support group of Christian friends and family. Having close, personal relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ who aren't afraid to be held accountable and hold you accountable is very important. Without that you are setting yourself up for a fall.
Jen G: Something Wrong is a really hard-hitting song. I think we all have felt like that at some point in our lives. What’s the meaning behind the song?
Separated: The story of the song is really about a defining moment in someone's life when they have a revelation of who God really is and who they really are .
Some people are going along in life thinking they're going to Heaven because they are "good". The Bible states we have all fallen short of the glory of God. The song tells how
someone realized that needed a Savior.
Jen G: What would you say to someone who can’t seem to find the good in themselves or their lives?
Separated: I would say never confuse the "facts" with the "Truth". Yes, you may feel unworthy or nothing is good in your life according to what might be going on (facts).
The truth is we were made by God in His image and should draw our identity from Him. The facts may say life is bad; the truth is God is good! All the time.
Jen G: How can they find strength in their brokenness?
Separated: By realizing that that God knows everything about you from beginning to end, and loves you no matter what. Sometimes we don’t know Jesus is all we need until Jesus is all we have.
Separated: To those who are trying to find comfort or even trying to forget through sex, alcohol or drugs, what would you guys say to them?
Think it through. No one ever fantasizes about the consequences. Seek Jesus as hard as you party and then you will find true comfort and rest.
Jen G: For those who feel they need a clean slate, who need to start over what’s your word of encouragement to them?
Separated: God is a God of second chances and third and fourth and fifth... Its never too late to start over with Him! God's mercies are new every morning!
