Jen G: I know you’re a writer for BMI so, I have to ask you what is the difference of writing songs for yourself verses other people?

Ray Peters: I simply write songs that I like and feel inspired to write about. I might write something that I can hear a group doing or a ballad that might be more of a solo style. My balance in music does make it easier to write all genres. If other artists like them, that is great. I am not offended when artists say that I need to change this or that. One thing I have learned is that no matter how old you are be willing to take advice and learn from those who have had success. I have simply become like a sponge in this business, soaking in everything that will help me. Humility is the key.

Jen G: What was your best experience and your biggest struggle in either writing for yourself or someone else?

Ray Peters: That’s easy! Best experience – hearing someone else sing your song brings great satisfaction. Worst - When you get a cool tune in your head and can’t think of any lyrics that will fit it.

Jen G: Out of all the songs you’ve written which one is your favorite so far?

Ray Peters: Run To The Cross is my favorite. I will never know the countless number of lives it has touched. I get e-mails almost every day from people who have said that song has helped them thru a tough time in their life. That gives me the greatest reward.

Jen G: What have you done when you didn’t feel so bold? I know sometimes we as Christians lose that confidence in Christ. What have you done in your personal life to bring you back to that place where you know you’re a child of God no matter what?

Ray Peters: “Put on the Garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness”. I think David said it best. Prayer and praise is always the start and the Word of God confirms His promises to me every time. I know it is hard to do it when we have hit rock bottom but if we can muster up the strength to cry out to Him. He will do the rest.

Jen G: One of the songs I really enjoyed is ‘Your Word Is Stronger Than Hands’. How has that been evident in your life in walking with Christ?

Ray Peters: I love that song. Think about that with just His Word, He spoke creation into existence. Can my hands do that? No!
Why do we spend so much time pursuing things that our hands can create, instead of pursuing the Word of God, which has the power to “cast mountains into the sea”. If you get a revelation of the power of the Word of God your faith will increase to a new level. I guess you have noticed that the majority of my songs come from passages in scripture.

Jen G: Besides giving your listeners an incredible array of music, what do you hope this album will do in their lives as far as worship and encouragement in spending time worshiping the Lord?

Ray Peters: Worship and praise is not just singing a chorus over and over again. It is passion for the Word, prayer without ceasing and having faith in His promises even when times are bad. Worship is acknowledging when you have sinned and believing that “He is faithful to forgive.” I want listeners to fall in love with Jesus and go to a new level with Him thru the songs on this album.

Jen G: Do you worship the Lord in your alone time off stage?

Ray Peters: Without sounding pious or holier than thou, I do have daily quiet time and try to stay in prayer all through the day. I believe that Christian Music Artists are called to the same standard that pastors and preachers are. It is a privilege to sing the Gospel and desire to be an artist that practices what I preach.

Jen G: What would you say your most precious moments have been on stage, like has there ever been a moment when you were in that secret place with God even with the crowd watching?
