AWOE Life Devotional Study Our Ways & Our Tongue I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. Psalm 39:1
It's not always easy to pay attention to what we're doing. Usually we react before we have a real chance to think things through. We say things we shouldn't because we feel like it's our fight, but we have a choice. The above psalmist said, he would take heed to his ways so he would not sin with his tongue. He had his mind set to think before he spoke. That he would keep his mouth with a bridle meaning he would control his tongue while the wicked was before him. In all reality, whether a person is wicked or not we all have someone who knows how to push all the right buttons to cause us to react and to say the wrong things. Still it's our choice. The devil isn't making us do it.
Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth. Psalm 119:88
Today, I hope your prayer is to be quick to walk in love so your testimony is kept. So often we walk out of love and those who are unsaved get this mixed signal from us. In one breath we're confessing to be saved, but in the next we're mean or rude to someone because we don't like what their doing.
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3
We have to have the mindset to walk in love even when we don't like something. I remember last year we went to this restaurant and the waiter kept getting things wrong. Needless to say it was driving me up the wall and I could feel my flesh getting very uncomfortable, I struggled much of the dinner just trying to think on the things the waiter was doing right. It took some effort, but by the end of the night I did find a few things to compliment him on. He was friendly, upbeat and had really great hair. I actually compliemented him on those points. Sometimes we have to focus on the small things to keep our heart right when things aren't going our way.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
