The NuSoul Generation Story... AWOE: How did God bring NuSoul together as a group?
NuSoul: The group began when I directed a youth choir called Rhythm and Praise. This is when I met most of the members in the group. As these kids got older they remained with me and decided to do something special with music that would reach this urban generation.
AWOE: What is the meaning behind the name NuSoul Generation?
NuSoul: The members themselves came up with the name to identify themselves with a new generation.
AWOE: How has NuSoul impacted the young people in and out of the church in and around your area?
NuSoul: This ministry has stirred up different gifting in young people in and out of the church. This ministry has been responsible for starting youth choirs in other churches and has brought freedom to young people in allowing them selves to be used for the kingdom of God as they are.
AWOE: Why do you think Urban Worship is important in the church?
NuSoul: Urban worship is important because it speaks the language of today's generation. The generations get to hear young people worshiping Christ in their own language. Acts 2
AWOE: How do you think the urban scene affects our culture and why has NuSoul taken it to a new level?
NuSoul: The urban scene is all over the media, which includes videos, and music and anything that is that exposed will have a strong affect on any culture. NuSoul simply introduces spirituality, which helps in taking it to a new level.
AWOE: Now NuSoul is a whole lot of believers it’s literally like a representation of the body of Christ, many parts to one body. Tell me a bit about what each member brings to the group, their energy and spirit…
NuSoul: Every member has their separate raw energy, some are worship leaders, some are writers, some are arrangers, some write emotionally, others write stylistically and when you put it altogether you have a small expression of the kingdom of God.
AWOE: How have you guys learned to share the spotlight equally with Christ as the true head and message?
NuSoul: Everyone has agreed that Christ is our everything and when the spotlight is on us that is the only image we want to portray. This is what equalizes this group.
AWOE: When did NuSoul begin to take the group outside of the church walls?
NuSoul: The group was started for this sole purpose.
AWOE: What type of venues have you guys performed in and what have you witnessed from the crowds?
NuSoul: We have performed at youth rallies, coffee houses, secular clubs, youth detentions, street rallies and schools.
AWOE: Do you guys ever go to each others churches and share your message their too?
NuSoul: Most of the members are from one church. We have one member from another church and we constantly minister there.
AWOE: What is it about NuSoul that relates to young people?
NuSoul: Besides the music being urban, their testimony from how they have been delivered relates to almost any youth situation you find out there in the streets. When they testify they are very vulnerable to their audience from what they were delivered.
AWOE: Do you guys think it’s important for churches to have activities that encourage young people to use their gifts for Jesus?
NuSoul: Absolutely! How else are we going to build a new generation of believers? Youth have to feel that God can use them as they are with their gifts.
AWOE: Also do you think there’s a craving to be apart of a group of people who accepts them and their unique gifts?
NuSoul: I think so. Youth want to be apart of something, they want to know that their life matters and it is the churches responsibility to groom this craving.
AWOE: Do you think that NuSoul has not only embraced a team spirit, but a family ties to each other?
NuSoul: Absolutely, they have grown fond of each other from growing up with each other. They have become like a family. They are always around each other and watched each other become adults.
AWOE: Tell me about D.J. Mode and Da Funk Factory…
NuSoul: D.J. Mode is the DJ the band uses and Da Funk Factory is the band that does the arranging and the performances with NuSoul.
AWOE: What has God been doing with the music, is NuSoul or anyone involved dropping any music we should be looking for?
NuSoul: Not at this time but there are plans for a live recording with NuSoul soon.
AWOE: How can people get in contact with you guys to come out and do what ya’ll do so well?
NuSoul: All you have to do is contact Donald Carrow (Soul Snatch Muusic) at 718-512-5282 and/or the email is soulsnatchamusic@yahoo.com. The myspace is www.myspace.com/nusoulgenerationholla.
AWOE: Today, what would you say to the young people who are reading this who have tried the church, but gave up before they really tried Jesus?
NuSoul: I would say that you might have given up on Jesus but Jesus never gave up on you. In NuSoul we have members who were in the same situations only to realize that Jesus never gave up on them including the director.
AWOE: What’s your words to those have gone to the wrong crowd for acceptance, but they know their friends are pulling them down?
NuSoul: I would try to tell them about how much worth or value they have in Christ because youth have a tendency to go to the wrong crowd when they don’t see their self worth. Once they see that they are precious in Christ it is not going to be easy to allow so called friends pull them down.
AWOE: To those who say “Hey, what you guys are doing is your thing, but I don’t have a crew. No one understands me and I can’t see what God would want with someone like me…” What’s your words of encouragement to them?
NuSoul: That’s exactly the position we were in as a group but God saw our passion and made the impossible possible. If God can use NuSoul, and we are nobody's then he can use anybody. NuSoul is the evidence that anyone can be used by God.
