Part 2: Michael Joseph Burgess of Acoustic Agape

JEN G: How did this love story of Acoustic Agape begin?

Michael Burgess: After returning from South Africa I found myself once again in prayer as to what God would have me do to serve him. I had thought God was calling me into full time missions in Africa but that was not his plan. The sounds of South Africa were still dancing around in my head. Music is a huge part of church there and when I picked up my guitar the songs just started pouring out. A few months later I attended a worship conference at my church. God used this to confirm everything he had been speaking to me heart about the importance of music in ministry. I left there totally on fire and started devoting up to 16 hours a day, 6 days a week to the ministry. That was over four years ago and the fire continues burn brighter every day.

JEN G: Why do you find it so important to not only pray for your fans, but to sing the word literally?

Michael Burgess: Prayer is a huge part of my life. I try to stay in dialogue with God all day long. His word makes it clear that we are fighting a spiritual battle. In Ephesians 6:18 God concludes his revelation through the apostle Paul on this subject by saying that we are to: Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.
God's word of course is essential to our Christian walk. I do my best never to start my day without a time of devotion. I've never set out to write a song. They just flow out when God speaks to my heart through his word, prayer, and bible centered teachers. I guess the songs God has called me to share are just a reflection of what he has shown me to be of importance. Praise be to God!

JEN G: In your song Psalm 139:16- where you sing, Lord do you see the weakness in me, and Lord do you feel the tears not revealed. Tell me what caused you to write this song.

Michael Burgess: I wrote this song fairly early on in the ministry. I knew I had a long way to go and many sacrifices to make and in a time of weakness I was pouring out my heart to God longing for my calling to come to fruition and thanking him for my gift. God is so good and as I was writing the verse Lord how I long to praise you in song. He showed me that I was exactly where he wanted me, oh wait here I am, as you intend. The struggles have shown, the way I should go.

JEN G: What would you say is the best part of your relationship with Christ?

Michael Burgess: LOVE

JEN G: What should everyone know about your cd?

Michael Burgess: My first CD is entitled 2 Timothy 1:6 ~ Fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you. I hope to encourage everyone to seek out what God has ordained for them. It's been an awesome race so far and I've barely left starting gate.

JEN G: Tell me why your giving your new CD for donations instead of a set price.?

Michael Burgess: I want to share these songs with everyone regardless of their financial circumstance and hope in time to be able to provide free CD's to those going through hard times.

JEN G: And how can people support you in Rockin Idol Television Series coming up June 18th?

Michael Burgess: PLEASE pray for me. I know God has a plan for his glory and I am praying for an awesome ministry opportunity to share love of Christ on national TV. God is so cool!
