Jen G's Music View...
Michael Joseph Burgess is a man of prayer who loves his fans with that God given love. He sings the word and shares his testimony. He’s given of himself through missions. He has encountered God’s love through life. His message is simply to spread the love of Christ through the anointing God has given him. This is my interview with the very blessed, Michael Burgess of Acoustic Agape…

Part 1: Michael Joseph Burgess of Acoustic Agape

JEN G: How did you end up going to Africa to minister?

Michael Burgess: Shortly after God called me to himself he began to heal my heart from some deep-rooted experiences. It wasn't too long before I found myself at peace and filled with gratitude. I began to earnestly pray almost begging God to show me how I could best serve him. Over the next few months He started speaking to my heart about underprivileged children and then missions. I started doing some research and found myself corresponding with a missionary in South Africa who had been doing some outreaches with a local Christian missionary serving in a large very impoverished shantytown outside of Cape Town. Over the next few months doors opened and everything fell into place. I closed down my business and was off to Africa.

JEN G: What did God show you while you served and ministered to the people?

Michael Burgess: God used this experience in so many ways to develop my heart to serve him unconditionally. I'm blown away at how he reveals himself in every detail. Whether it's provision or protection or just to comfort us in our time of need. When we choose to serve God wholeheartedly we can truly count on him to be our everything.

JEN G:How did your life in Africa differ from your life here in the states?

Michael Burgess: Khayelitsha is the name of the township where I served. It has over 1.5 million residence most of which who are living in makeshift shacks constructed of scraps of anything they can find. The unemployment rate is over 75%. Murder, violence, child abuse, rape and every imaginable crime is part of every day life there. To say that life in Khayelitsha is difficult would be a gross understatement.

JEN G:Was there any particular account that really affected you from the inside out?

Michael Burgess: Part of my duties was to help distribute food to children in the streets. These children literally have nothing, yet they are quick to smile and love and be loved. I would take an empty bread bag and stuff it full of paper so we could play ball. This would make their day and mine too. People had so little yet they would invite you into their home and share everything. I had the privilege to be there during Christmas and helped give away hundreds of toys. It was by far my best Christmas ever.

JEN G:What did you take out of the experience?

Michael Burgess: I think it was more about what I left there. My heart is still in Africa with the children. I can't possibly forget them. I look forward to what God has planned in his time to possibly use the music ministry as a platform to aid these hurting people.

JEN G: How has that experience affect how you live both in Christ and in everyday life?

Michael Burgess Regardless of our gift we are called to serve God on some level through the love of Christ and share this love and the Good News with our fellow man through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Our treasure is in heaven. Though we may be blessed, if recognition is what we seek, we will be disappointed. True joy comes from God.
